What was the SNCC? What did they stand for?
SNCC stands for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. It was founded in April of 1960 in Raleigh, NC. They were a group of people dedicated to helping students fight against racial inequality. The SNCC’s main objective was to give young blacks a voice in their community against racial segregation so they could help win the fight against segregation, while helping them get out of jail for protesting and support their protests/campaigns. They were part of many major Civil Rights events and peaceful protests/campaigns to help African Americans gain equality. The video below showcases one of the founders of the SNCC, and will explain some of the things they did and the hardships they faced.
